Not Your Typical Smoothie Blog

Everyone has tried different smoothie recipes BUT these are protein powder free while still being a meal replacement.

BONUS-the best cleaning hack ever!

Blueberry Smoothie

I have had a love hate relationship with smoothies for years. I would be on a huge kick and have one everyday for a month and then would get bored and not look at my blender for half a year haha. Different things would deter me from smoothies. I would stick to the same recipe, I got hungry soon after, AND I hated cleanup!

So, I've done the legwork and found recipes that anyone could drink and I felt as though it was time to share. In order to have a balanced meal, feel full and have energy there needs to be the right amount of healthy fats, carbohydrates, and protein. Some examples of each are:

HEALTHY FAT- raw nuts, coconut oil, nut butters, seeds, and avocado

CARBOHYDRATES- fruits ( any kind of berries, cherries, banana, mango, pinapple, and peaches) and veggies (spinach, kale, carrots, sweet potatoes, collard greens to name a few) rolled oats

PROTEIN- Some double dipping here...nut butters, seeds (chia, hemp, flax), yogurt, milk

I know what you're thinking, who wants to put veggies in a drink? I promise these recipes will make you question if you forgot to put them in. So without further ado here are three delicious energy boosting smoothie recipes...

If you prefer it with more liquid you could always add some water. If you like an addition sweet touch you can add 1 tbs of honey, maple syrup, or coconut nectar as these are all natural sweetener. For an added superfood you could always add 1 tsp of turmeric, Maca powder, or spirulina.

Mix and match and have fun with your smoothie. Don't worry, I did NOT forget about that cleaning hack I promised. While you are sipping on your meal, squeeze a dollop of dish soap into your blender. Then, fill the blender about 3/4 full with water, put the lid on tight and run that bad boy for about 30-60 seconds. Rinse out in the sink and let it dry. Seriously, this is life changing folks, enjoy!
