Baby Step Your Way to Wellness
A healthier you is just one simple change that turns into a habit. You are in control of that change and YOU decide the terms!
Everyone talks about wanting to be healthier, the problem is most people don't know where to start. I used to feel the same way about cleaning my house when I was a new homeowner. I would start in my kitchen, run to my living room to put something away and, low and behold, my kitchen went on the back burner seeing all the work that needed to be done in my living room! This happened for a while and I thought to myself there has to be a more efficient way. My mother always says "go back to basics." I figured out how to not look at the whole house but take things one room at a time.
The same can be true about taking care of your wellness. Take small steps which all lead in the same direction...progress. You can decide you would like to make one small change in the food you eat. Maybe buy one new fruit or vegetable at the store that you've never eaten. You could try a new meditation you find online and work on some deep breathing. You can decide today is the day that you take that walk around town. The point is, you are the boss. You are the decision maker and no one else needs to weigh in if you prefer. Take that chance on yourself and choose to make that tiny change that will create a huge impact on your whole self. You are worth the change!
Yesterday I decided to take a small step. One of my dearest friends came to visit me with her daughter (who is way too grown up already!!). Instead of sitting and gabbing we decided to take a walk and gab on a nature trail behind my house. I don't think I need to go into all the positive effects being in nature has on our souls, but the whole time we were walking each of us would talk about the beauty that was outside. There are no words to describe the perfection in a New York summer. Anyway, we stumbled upon some blackberries, hence the above picture. As I was picking them I thought how amazing it was to be on this trail with a childhood friend, picking berries and getting fresh air. All that happened because we decided not to sit on the couch and gab. Now don't get me wrong, sometimes a nice gab-fest is definitely warranted and probably with some yummy snacks but for yesterday, we all took that small baby step. The small baby step that made me go out again today to take that walk and, now, is set to become a daily habit.
